Music for Matt

Preston Magouirk is from Monroe, LA and graduated from Tulane University's School of Liberal Arts in 2011 with a major in History and a minor in Philosophy. Today, Preston is a Teach for America member. He teaches fourth grade at Gonzales Primary School in Gonzales, Louisiana.

Use of Funds:
In Preston's words: "I am extremely thankful for the Matthew Costa Memorial Scholarship that supported my path as a brother in the fraternity by offsetting the remainder of my senior year's membership dues. Further, the scholarship provided monetary support for my living expenses and my classroom's supply needs during the summer months at Teach for America's Summer Institute in the Mississippi Delta Region. The profound honor of association with a gentleman like Matthew Costa drives my passion each day for a concentrated effort toward creating a just and equitable world for future generations."

Asher Carey is from Dover, Delaware and graduated from Tulane University's Freeman School of Business in 2010 with a major in Legal Studies and a minor in Finance. After graduation, Asher stayed in New Orleans to begin working on his Masters degree in Finance from Tulane. After he completes his education at Tulane in May 2011, he hopes to begin a career in Finance and eventually go to law school. Asher is an accomplished violinist; he enjoys both playing and providing lessons to children.

Use of Funds:
The proceeds of the Costa Memorial Scholarship are helping him pay for graduate school tuition.

Michael Sandler is from Bethesda, MD and graduated from Tulane in 2009 with a degree from the A.B. Freeman School of Business and a minor in Political Science. After graduating, he moved to Washington D.C. to work for the US House of Representatives Financial Services Committee and is now a Financial Analyst for Corporate Risk Advisors. He plans to return to school in the coming years to continue his education.

Use of Funds:
In Mike’s words: "With the Costa Scholarship proceeds, I planned a softball tournament and crawfish boil. Sigma Phi Epsilon brothers who were struggling to pay their fraternity dues were given the opportunity to coordinate the event; in return, a portion of the funds were used to reduce their outstanding dues. Sig Ep also received much needed softball equipment and other athletic supplies. Most importantly, we were able to have a great time playing softball and eating crawfish on the Mississippi river. From everything I have heard about Matt, I’m confident he would have enjoyed it.”
